Step 1: Check for Injuries

Step 2: Make the Scene Safe

Wellington's specific considerations:

• On steep hills: Ensure all handbrakes are fully applied and wheels turned to the kerb before exiting vehicles. Multiple-vehicle accidents on Wellington gradients have secondary incidents when vehicles roll.
• In wind: Be aware of doors — open them on the sheltered side and hold firmly. A wind-blown door can cause injury and additional damage.
